Our History

A Brief Timeline

• 1884

  The organization was established as the Assiniboia Agricultural Association.

• 1899

  The second fair was presented by the new Regina Agricultural Association, and it became an annual event.

• 1905

  In 1905, the fair was the centre of attention for the entire nation during celebrations surrounding the inauguration of the Province of Saskatchewan into Confederation.

• 1907

  In 1907, the Saskatchewan Legislature formally passed the Associations Act of Incorporation, which meant the event could be expanded to exhibitors of various products and animals, and to provide entertainment and amusement.

• 1908 – 1920s

  The next couple of decades saw construction of permanent facilities and ever-expanding volunteer participation.

• 1920s

  Midway rides, sideshows, automobile racing, professional baseball and giant horse-pulling competitions were added.

• 1933

  Opened the World’s Grain Exhibition and Conference, which showcased exhibits from more than 40 countries. The Grain Show Building also opened that year as the centrepiece.

• 1950s

  This decade of development saw the construction of the Exhibition Auditorium, Jubilee Building and paving of the midway were completed. That same year, two-thirds of the Grain Show Building burned to the ground in a raging fire, leaving only the east wing standing.

• 1955

  The exhibition followed a theme In celebration of the province's Golden Jubilee. Fair attendance exceeded 200,000 for the first time.

• 1960s

  The Buffalo Days theme was adopted.

• 1971

  Falling in line with the new Buffalo Days Theme, the first annual Canadian Western Agribition was held

• 1973

  The Silver Broom took place.

• 1977

  The Agridome opened

• 1978

  The Western Canada Farm Progress Show first launched (now Canada's Farm Show Regina, SK).

• 1982

  The Buffalo Days Exhibition was named "Major Fair of the Year" by the Canadian Association of Exhibitions.

• 2010s and beyond

  Today the story continues. With exciting new facilities and plans for future growth for generations to come. A place to see legends and become future legends.
