Canada’s Best in Skilled Bring Energy, Excellence, and Inspiration to the Queen City
This massive competition is set to boost local economy, inspire careers, and highlight Regina’s world-class event facilities.
Once again, the nation will come to Regina for a national competition. The Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) 2025 will take place on May 29 & 30 at the REAL District and will feature some of Canada’s top skilled trades professionals.
The Queen City will host over 500 competitors from across the country as they participate in more than 40 events, all vying for the title of best in their field and an opportunity to represent Canada at the WorldSkills Competition.
This is the first time Skills/Compétences Canada has been held in Regina. Skills Canada says REAL District is a great venue for the event, with a variety of different spaces allowing the event the ability to accommodate their needs. Those spaces include meeting rooms of all sizes, large exhibition halls, a ballroom, Mosaic Stadium for receptions, and the Brandt Centre for the opening and closing ceremonies.
REAL’s design allows national events of this scale to be held in Regina with the interconnectivity offering visitors the chance to experience the Skills Canada Competition under one roof, easily moving from one event to another. Skills Canada will move into a substantial portion of REAL District, occupying the Viterra International Trade Centre, Ag-Ex Pavillion, Banner Hall, AffinityPlex, Brandt Centre, and the Brunswick Steel Arena in the Co-operators Centre.
According to Skills/Compétences Canada, “Saskatchewan also has a strong industrial base in Agriculture, Energy, Advanced Manufacturing and Mining which all rely on skilled trade workers. Regina has been really welcoming to have us! There is so much enthusiasm and excitement around bringing the Skills Canada National Competition to Regina. The City of Regina, Reginal Hotel Association, The REAL District, Tourism Saskatchewan, the Regina Airport Authority, Economic Development Regina, Regina and District Chamber of Commerce and many more, are supportive of our efforts to host the event in Regina.”
The two-day event will feature challenges in Construction, Employment, Information Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering, Services, and Transportation. Each of these categories is broken down further into individual competencies. They include welding, workplace safety, photography, robotics, baking, autobody repair, hairstyling, and more. With a total of 44 Skill Areas being challenged, Skills Canada will showcase the amount of opportunity there is within the trades.
Shaun Thorson, CEO for Skills Canada, explains the process and what happens during the two-day event.
