Mosaic Stadium: The Heart of Regina’s Excitement!

Mosaic Stadium, a cornerstone of REAL District, stands prominently in the heart of Regina, embodying the spirit of community and excitement in Saskatchewan. Since its inauguration on June 30, 2017, after breaking ground on June 16, 2014, Mosaic Stadium has become a dynamic hub for sports and entertainment, home of the beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders as its flagship tenant.

Mosaic Stadium is not just the battleground for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, certainly the most high-profile tenant, it is a hub of football action for multiple teams. The University of Regina Rams hit the field for their home games, joined by the Regina Thunder, and Regina Riot. Whether it’s pro, junior, or women’s football, Mosaic thrives with energy all season long.

In the fall of 2024, the Regina Rams hosted the University of Laval Rouge et Or in the Mitchell Bowl at Mosaic Stadium. Even though the Rams lost in a defensive battle by a score of 17-14, they played in front of over 4500 die-hard football fans. In November of this year, the Vanier Cup, the Canadian university football national championship game, will be contested in Regina for the first time in the game’s 60-year history.

With a building capable of holding over 30,000 fans, big things can happen. In August of 2019 the legendary Garth Brooks blew into the Queen City for his only two outdoor shows in Canada. Over those two spectacular summer nights (with the thunder literally rolling), nearly 80,000 fans packed the stadium.

Later that year in October, the field was flooded for a first in Regina as the city welcomed the 2019 NHL Heritage Classic. Regina is not part of an NHL market, and this was the first NHL regular season outdoor game held in a neutral site. It was also the first regular season game held in Regina, and the first regular season game held in the province since 1994. The game featured two cities on either side of Regina along the Trans-Canada Highway, the Calgary Flames and the Winnipeg Jets wowed over 33,000 hockey fans with the Jets winning 2-1 in overtime.

In 2020, ice was put back in to create Iceville, Saskatchewan’s largest outdoor skating rink, drawing over 13,000 people.

On September 29, 2022, Mosaic Stadium hosted Miyo-wîcîwitowin Day, a day of truth, sharing, healing and action. This was in response to the federal government’s declaration to mark September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. During the ceremony, the Seat of Truth was officially unveiled and will be permanently reserved, never to be used or sold. It will always stand as a tribute to the spirits of those unable to join us at Mosaic Stadium due to the impact of Residential Schools. Every event at our stadium will always have a seat dedicated to the spirit of anyone who attended a Residential school.

The stadium’s design and construction were meticulously planned to cater to a diverse range of events, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity at its core. The City of Regina and architect teams worked closely with Accessibility Advisory Committee, Office of Disability Issues for Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission, Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, CNIB, and The Big Sky Centre for Learning, and Being Astonished Inc. to ensure the building process met the accessibility needs of those who attend events. Accessible seating areas are larger and can accommodate wheelchairs and support stay. There are way-finding strips in place and voice equipped elevators among other features that make the stadium user-friendly for everyone.
